We often look at news headlines and the broken and corrupt world around us and say things like, “This is insane!” But how often do we wonder if WE are living a life of insanity? Sanity can be defined as “wholeness of mind, making decisions based on truth.” If this is sanity, then operating in a state of deception, basing our decisions on untruth, is insanity! It is only when we recognize we have been deceived and are living based on untruth and turn to God for help that He can restore us to sanity.

Today is part 3 in our series, Putting on the Easy Yoke. We have covered the steps to bondage and that abiding in Christ and His truth is what sets us free. We all want abundant life, and we all seek fulfillment. But oftentimes, real fulfillment is not where we are looking. If we are seeking satisfaction in life through a focus on our physical existence—our five senses, then we are deceived, and not living in truth. It is only when we replace our focus and look for satisfaction in our spiritual existence, that we can experience the freedom that Jesus offers.

This is our second episode in our new series, Putting on the Easy Yoke. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” This series seeks to shed light on the meaning of this profound invitation that Jesus offers us.
In part one, we learned that bondage is our problem--not sin. Today we explore how it is deception that keeps us in bondage, and it is Truth that sets us free! Tory reviews the process of bondage and then takes us through the parable of the sower in Matthew 13 and the steps to living in freedom as we abide in the Word of God.

Today we begin a new series called Putting on the Easy Yoke. What is it that Jesus is calling us to? A try harder life? Just do better and you will get there? I think we’ve all felt the weight of that mindset when we fail, and it is not the easy yoke. There is real bondage that left unchecked leads to despair, and ultimately death. But the good news is that Jesus has provided a way out of that bondage into freedom and life!

Genesis 1:27 says that “God created man in his own image...” This is a completely different narrative than the story that man evolved out of nothing. If the Bible is true and God created man, what difference does that make on our view of life? What does it mean that God created man in his own image?
